Here are details of our NETMCDO 2017 Conference:

Makers of Meaning: Strategies for designing your life with music.   

Over the course of two days, we brought in practitioners from multiple disciplines to share tools, topics, and strategies for infusing meaning into the work musicians do, and the work that career professionals do on their behalf.  We explored how we and the musicians we serve experience meaning and relevance in our work. Conference sessions included insights on how musicians' work affects others and ways to assess the impact. In panel discussions, small breakout groups, and interactive exercises we addressed the issues that matter most to our participants.

Location: The Colburn School in Downtown Los Angeles

Conference Highlights:

Discussions with groundbreaking musicians and audience-engagement pioneers, including:

Sessions focused on:

  • Defining personal success and how it might vary across cultures and industries
  • Communicating value and appreciation of the arts
  • Practical strategies to help students better position themselves in the arts marketplace.
  • Exploring The Artist Canvas: a musician’s version of the Business Model Canvas
  • Reframing career thinking or “employability” in a way that engages reluctant teachers and students.
  • Field trip to Renaissance Arts Academy, a uniquely progressive charter school for 6-12th grade with more than just an “emphasis” on the arts
